Native fan control for Apple Silicon

Your fans, finally
on speaking terms.

Ventus is a tiny, lightweight menu-bar app that keeps your Mac cool and quiet — with fan curves smart enough to see heat coming before it arrives.

Small app. Big brain.

Six things other fan apps don't do.

Smarter curves

Not just temperature→RPM. Hysteresis with dwell time, EMA smoothing, and slew-rate limiting mean fans ramp gently instead of oscillating around a threshold.

Power-aware prediction

Ventus reads live package power via IOReport as a leading indicator — sustained load spins fans up before the temperature spikes, not after.

Differential per-fan control

Each fan follows its own weighted blend of sensor groups — left fan GPU-weighted, right fan P-core-weighted — instead of both chasing one number.

Context profiles

Quiet / Balanced / Performance / Apple auto, switched automatically by battery state, dock, running apps, games, or time of day — and it always shows why.

Thermal-pressure aware

The goal isn’t chasing a number — it’s never letting your CPU throttle. With a hard override that blasts fans to max at 95°C.

Safety-first

Starts in observe-only mode; never touches fans until you arm it. Any crash or watchdog trip reverts instantly to Apple’s automatic control.

CURVE EDITOR

Curves that don't flip-flop.

Hover a threshold in most fan apps and the fans yo-yo up and down. Ventus curves have ramp-up/ramp-down hysteresis with dwell time, EMA smoothing, and slew-rate limiting — so speed changes are gradual, deliberate, and quiet.

The live "you are here" marker shows exactly where your Mac sits on the curve, right now.

0% 50% 100% 30°C 65°C 100°C you are here

CONTEXT PROFILES

It switches itself. And tells you why.

Profiles flip automatically by context — power source, docked state, running apps, games, even time of day. The UI always shows the reason.

Quiet

Tolerates warmth to stay silent. Fans hold off until they truly must spin.

Auto: on battery, night hours

Balanced

The everyday curve — gentle ramps, sensible headroom, no drama.

Auto: plugged in at your desk

Performance

Front-loads cooling so sustained loads never hit the throttle point.

Auto: game or render detected

Apple auto

Hands control back to macOS entirely. Ventus just watches and charts.

Auto: clamshell / docked mode
SAFETY FIRST

It won't touch a thing until you say so.

Ventus starts in observe-only mode. Arm it explicitly when you're ready — and on any quit, crash, or watchdog trip, fans are guaranteed to revert to Apple's automatic control. At 95°C, everything goes to max, no questions asked.

Observe-only by default — arm to control
Watchdog reverts to Apple auto on any failure
Hard override: fans to 100% at ≥95°C
